Support for Team India Amidst Test Series Loss

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 25: Former cricketer Kiran More expressed his support for Team India following their defeat in the first Test of the five-match series against England. He emphasized that this young team deserves "more time" to develop, as building a strong squad takes time.

In a thrilling match at Headingley, England successfully chased down a target of 371 runs, winning by five wickets, with Ben Duckett leading the charge with an impressive 149 runs. This victory gives England a 1-0 advantage in the series.

Commenting on India's performance, More stated, "It's essential to allow the Indian team time to grow in Test cricket. A robust team evolves gradually. While there are ups and downs, this match was a significant event for Test cricket, lasting five days and showcasing multiple centuries. Indian Test cricket is progressing positively, and I believe the team should be given more time, as you cannot create a team overnight. Gautam Gambhir also deserves time as he is a capable coach..."

During the first Test at Headingley, India achieved five centuries, marking a unique record as the first team to lose a Test match despite scoring so many hundreds in a single game.

India now holds the record for the most individual Test hundreds in a losing effort. In this match, Yashashvi Jaiswal scored 101 (159), Shubman Gill made 147 (227), and Rishabh Pant contributed 134 (178) in the first innings, followed by KL Rahul with 137 (247) and Pant again with 118 (140) in the second innings.

Historically, only once has a team lost a Test match after scoring four centuries, which occurred with Australia against England in Melbourne in 1928. On the final day of this Test, England required 350 runs to win.

Australia holds the record for the highest successful chase on the last scheduled day of a Test match, achieving 404 runs against England during the 1948 Headingley Test. The total of 835 runs scored in this match is the fourth highest for any team that ended up losing.

The first Test between England and India saw a remarkable 1673 runs scored, the highest ever recorded in a Test match between these two teams. The previous record was 1614 runs in a drawn match at Manchester in 1990.
