Royal Support for the Belgian Team
Los Angeles [US], July 10: King Philippe of Belgium showed his support for the national men's football team as they prepared for their quarter-final match against Spain in the FIFA World Cup 2026, scheduled for Friday at the Los Angeles Stadium. The team had the honor of dining with the King, who was presented with a signed jersey and took a memorable selfie with the players.
The Belgian Red Devils shared several photos of the team alongside King Philippe in anticipation of the crucial match.
In a video posted by the Belgian Red Devils on X, the King commended the team's efforts and expressed his confidence in their success, stating, "A few days ago, I watched your match with my daughter, and we stayed up until 2:00 a.m. to see you play. It was magnificent. My message for you tomorrow is simple: We must win! I believe in you! Thank you very much."
As the King visited the squad to show his encouragement before the quarter-final against Spain, the Belgian Red Devils highlighted this moment on their social media.
Belgium advanced to the quarter-finals after a challenging group stage, where they drew 1-1 with Egypt and played to a goalless draw against Iran, before achieving a decisive 5-1 victory over New Zealand. They then narrowly defeated Senegal 3-2 in the Round of 32 and triumphed over co-hosts USA with a score of 4-1 in the Round of 16.
On the other hand, Spain enters the quarter-final in excellent form, having not conceded a single goal throughout the tournament, boasting six consecutive clean sheets in the FIFA World Cup.
After finishing at the top of Group H, Spain eliminated Austria in the Round of 32 and narrowly defeated Portugal in the Round of 16 to secure their spot in the quarter-finals.
While Spain aims to reach the semi-finals for the first time since their championship win in 2010, Belgium, the bronze medalists from 2018, are determined to advance, with key players like Romelu Lukaku and Kevin de Bruyne providing essential leadership.
