Exciting Matches at the Thailand Open

Patumwan [Thailand], May 13: In a thrilling display of skill, former World No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth triumphed over eighth seed Loh Kean Yew from Singapore, winning in straight sets with scores of 21-14, 21-15 during the Round of 32 at the Thailand Open held at Nimibutr Stadium.


In other matches, PV Sindhu showcased her prowess by defeating Tung Ciou-Tong from Chinese Taipei with a commanding score of 21-9, 21-12. Additionally, Devika Sihag secured a hard-fought victory against Japan's Natsuki Nidaira, winning 21-19, 13-21, 21-15.


Srikanth, who recently contributed to India's bronze medal at the Thomas Cup, dominated the match, finishing it in just 30 minutes. He is set to face Su Li Yang from Chinese Taipei in the pre-quarterfinals.


In the men's singles, Lakshya Sen, returning from injury, defeated Singapore's Jia Heng Jason Teh with scores of 21-16, 21-17, advancing after a 43-minute match.


Sindhu, seeded sixth, started her match trailing 3-0 but quickly turned the tide to secure her place in the next round.


Devika Sihag, the Thailand Masters 2026 champion, initially led her match but faced a challenge when Natsuki took control in the second game. However, Devika rallied back in the decider, scoring seven consecutive points to take an 11-5 lead before clinching the win.


Sindhu's next opponent will be Amalie Schulz from Denmark, while Devika will compete against Pitchamon Opatniputh from Thailand. Malvika Bansod also progressed, defeating her Canadian rival 13-21, 26-24, 21-13 in a match lasting 53 minutes.


In another exciting matchup, Anmol Kharb put up a commendable fight against World No. 4 and second seed Chen Yu Fei from China. Anmol won the first game 21-19 and pushed the match to a decider. Despite leading 11-2 in the final game, she ultimately lost 21-19, 13-21, 18-21 after a grueling one hour and ten minutes.
