West Indies Secure Dominant Victory

In a remarkable display, Kemar Roach reached his 300th Test wicket as the West Indies crushed Sri Lanka by an innings and 217 runs, bowling them out for a mere 101 runs. This victory, which gives the West Indies a 1-0 lead in the series, marks Roston Chase's inaugural win as Test captain.

The West Indies bowlers showcased superior movement both in the air and off the pitch, consistently posing a threat throughout the 27.2 overs on the fourth day. Roach was particularly menacing, generating significant late inswing that troubled right-handed batsmen and enticing edges from left-handers.

Roach's milestone wicket came as the ninth dismissal of Sri Lanka's innings, with Asitha Fernando's stumps shattered by a well-angled delivery. His teammates celebrated the achievement enthusiastically, presenting him with a Test shirt emblazoned with '300'.

Roach is now the first West Indies bowler to achieve this feat since Curtly Ambrose, joining the ranks of Courtney Walsh, Ambrose, and Malcolm Marshall as the only bowlers with more Test wickets for the West Indies.

Sri Lanka struggled with the bat, appearing fatigued after spending 160.5 overs in the field over the previous two days. Dinesh Chandimal was the only batsman to show some resistance, scoring 43 runs off 60 balls, while the rest of the top order failed to reach double figures.

The West Indies bowlers maintained relentless accuracy, rarely straying in line or length, while Sri Lanka's few boundaries came from overpitched deliveries in search of swing.

Roach initiated the wicket-taking spree in the first over, trapping Nishan Madushka, while Jayden Seales quickly followed suit by dismissing nightwatchman Kasun Rajitha. Shamar Joseph then dismantled the middle order, and Alzarri Joseph joined the attack to claim Kusal Mendis's wicket.

Sri Lanka went into lunch at 81 for 6, but the West Indies needed just 6.1 overs to finish off the remaining batsmen. Roach's two quick wickets brought him to his 300th, and after some heated exchanges, Seales secured the final wicket, concluding a comprehensive victory for the West Indies.
