Karnataka CM Rewards Blind Women's Cricket Team for World Cup Victory

Celebrating a Historic Win

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], November 25: The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, has announced significant rewards for the members of India's blind women's cricket team, who recently triumphed in the Blind Women’s T20 World Cup.


According to the CM, each player from Karnataka will be awarded a cash prize of ₹10 lakh and a government job, while players from other states will receive ₹2 lakh each. This announcement will benefit 13 players from outside Karnataka who were part of the squad.


In a message on X, Siddaramaiah extended his congratulations to the team, stating, “Congratulations to the members of India’s blind women’s cricket team, the World Cup winners, and best wishes for their future sporting endeavors filled with success.”


He also acknowledged the leadership of the team’s captain, Deepika, who is from Shira in the Tumakuru district.


“Every cricket talent from Karnataka will receive a cash prize of ten lakh rupees along with a government job. Players from other states in the Indian team will each be awarded two lakh rupees. Thus, the 13 players from other states will benefit from this announcement,” he added.


In the final match, India opted to field first and restricted Nepal to 114 runs for 5 wickets in 20 overs.


The Indian batters chased down the 115-run target effortlessly, scoring 100 runs in the first 10 overs, eliminating any threat from the opposition.


Opener Phula Saren played a crucial role, scoring 44 runs off 27 balls, including four boundaries, while Karuna K contributed a quick 42 runs off 27 balls, leading India to victory in the 13th over. Saren was named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.


This victory marks a significant milestone for the India Blind women's cricket team, as they remained unbeaten throughout the tournament, securing the prestigious title.


India began their campaign with a win against Sri Lanka, followed by a 57-run victory over Australia, despite a previous setback in chasing a target of 293.


They also triumphed over arch-rivals Pakistan, successfully chasing down a target of 136 runs in just 10.2 overs. In the semi-final, they dominated Australia by nine wickets before clinching the trophy with a decisive win over Nepal.
