Williamson's Emotional Farewell to Lord's

Kane Williamson has suggested that his cricketing career may be nearing its end, as he prepares for what he believes will be his last Test match at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground in London, starting Thursday (June 4th). The experienced New Zealand batsman is set to play a crucial role in the Tom Latham-led team, which aims to secure another Test series victory in England, following their success under Williamson's captaincy in 2021.

When asked if this would be his final appearance at Lord's, Williamson responded with a hint of melancholy, jokingly noting that the media's questions were delaying his lunch. "Yeah, it probably is, eh? And you're delaying my lunch, which isn't very good of you," he remarked during a pre-match press conference.

The 35-year-old cricketer has forged a strong connection with Lord's, having played for Middlesex last year in a unique arrangement. He participated in county cricket and also represented the London Spirits in 'The Hundred'. Williamson expressed his admiration for the venue, highlighting the ground's rich history and the efforts made by the authorities to preserve its traditions. "Playing a Test here is always special due to the history surrounding it. You only get a few chances to play at Lord's throughout your career," he stated.

Williamson emphasized the unique atmosphere of the ground, mentioning the experience of walking onto the pitch through the long room and interacting with members. He noted the iconic lunches and the memorable aspects of playing at Lord's. "It's a special place, and every player values their opportunity to play here. For many in the dressing room, it's their first time, and they're excited about it," he added.

Since his debut at Lord's in 2013, Williamson has played four Test matches there, accumulating 256 runs across eight innings, including one century in 2015 and a half-century. He has also participated in three ODIs at the venue, with a highest score of 40.
