Guiyang [China], June 21: In a remarkable display of skill, Jyoti emerged victorious, earning India its sole gold medal at the World Boxing Cup 2 held in China. She triumphed over Uzbekistan's Farzona Fozilova, the reigning champion from the World Boxing Cup in Brazil, with a commanding 5-0 unanimous decision in the 48kg final.
This decisive win against a formidable opponent not only capped off an impressive tournament for Jyoti but also underscored her rising prominence in the international boxing arena, as noted in a recent press release.
India's medal tally was further bolstered by three silver medals from strong performances in the finals. Minakshi, competing in the 51 kg category and ranked World No. 1 in the 48 kg, faced a setback, losing 0-5 to China's Wu Yu.
Prachi, in the 57kg division, also secured a silver medal after a 0-5 defeat against Uzbekistan's Nigina Uktamova, despite an otherwise commendable tournament run.
In the men's events, Deepak claimed a silver medal in the 70kg category, succumbing to Kazakhstan's Ablaikhan Zhussupov with a score of 0-5 in the final.
Earlier in the competition, India had already secured two bronze medals through Jugnoo (85kg) and Nikhil (55kg), bringing the nation's overall medal count to six (1 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze).
This performance highlights India's depth and consistency in boxing, showcasing multiple finalists and podium finishes at the World Boxing Cup circuit.
