Historic Bowling Feat by Justin Greaves

On July 28, in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies bowler Justin Greaves made a remarkable achievement by becoming the first player in Test cricket history, since detailed records began, to claim five consecutive wicket maidens.


This milestone was reached during a pivotal spell around lunch on the third day of the first ICC World Test Championship match against Pakistan, where he dismantled the opposition's batting order, as reported by the ICC.

Greaves' performance also marked his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket, breaking the previous record of four successive wicket maidens set by England's Stuart Broad against South Africa in January 2016.


He attributed his success to a straightforward approach, following the guidance of West Indies captain Roston Chase, who advised him to maintain discipline and bowl in the right areas.



Greaves expressed, "Captain Roston Chase advised me to stay disciplined and see if I could take some wickets for the team. The ball was moving, and I was fortunate to get some rewards. Whenever I have the ball, the team relies on me to be a key player and help us out of tough situations. Achieving five wickets for the first time in Test cricket is a great feeling, but I know there’s still much work ahead."

Initially, Pakistan seemed poised to establish a significant first-innings lead, having reached 244/3 with Shan Masood scoring a century. However, Greaves' dismissal of Masood initiated a swift collapse for the visitors.


He then took out Aamer Jamal, Ali Usman, and Mohammad Rizwan in consecutive overs without conceding a single run, leaving Pakistan at 267/8 at lunch, in response to the West Indies' first-innings score of 311.



After the break, Greaves continued his exceptional performance, taking the wicket of Mohammad Abbas in his first over after lunch, achieving five consecutive wicket maidens. Pakistan was eventually bowled out for 282, showcasing Greaves' outstanding seam bowling skills.

However, Pakistan fought back before the end of the day's play, reducing the West Indies to 126/7, which limited their overall lead to 155 runs. Shamar Joseph, who remained not out on 22, and Kemar Roach, who scored five, will continue batting on the fourth day.
