Jude Bellingham Praises Ghana After England's Stalemate in FIFA World Cup 2026
Bellingham Reflects on England's Draw with Ghana
Massachusetts [US], June 24: Jude Bellingham expressed his respect for Ghana following England's goalless draw in their Group L match during the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Tuesday (local time).
He acknowledged the challenge England faced in breaking through Ghana's disciplined defense but emphasized that the outcome should not be viewed as a setback for their campaign.
“Such things can happen in football,” he remarked, as reported by the FIFA Website.
The 22-year-old midfielder pointed out that England maintained control for significant portions of the match, dominating possession, corners, and attempts on goal, yet failed to penetrate Ghana's organized defense.
“Kudos to Ghana. They achieved what they aimed for. Despite our possession and numerous corners, we couldn't find a way through,” he stated.
Bellingham also highlighted the importance of keeping spirits high within the team, reassuring that there was no sense of panic in the locker room after dropping points.
“Though I'm young, I consider myself one of the more experienced players. There’s no anxiety or drama in the dressing room,” he added, emphasizing the team's commitment to staying positive.
With four points from two matches, Bellingham believes England is still in a favorable position in Group L and encouraged his teammates to keep up their momentum for the upcoming games.
“We have four points, which puts us in a solid position. It’s not the end of the world,” he remarked.
In their Group L encounter at Boston Stadium, England was held to a goalless draw by Ghana, who executed a well-structured defensive strategy that frustrated Thomas Tuchel's squad.
Despite a previous 4-2 victory over Croatia, England controlled much of the match but struggled to penetrate Ghana's compact five-man defense. Harry Kane found himself isolated for extended periods, and England's creative players struggled to find space, failing to register a shot on target in the first half.
In the second half, Tuchel brought on Bukayo Saka, Marcus Rashford, and Eberechi Eze to inject more attacking energy, while Jude Bellingham was substituted for Morgan Rogers after achieving 50 international caps at just 22 years and 359 days, making him the youngest male player to reach this milestone.
After the substitutions, England intensified their pressure, with Nico O'Reilly striking the crossbar in the 87th minute, and Harry Kane missing the rebound. Ghana faced a late scare when they cleared a header off the line during stoppage time, preserving their clean sheet.
Despite relentless pressure, England could not secure a goal and had to settle for a draw, remaining at the top of Group L with four points from two matches, tied on points with Ghana.
