JP Duminy Highlights SA20 as Key Preparation for T20 World Cup
SA20 Season Four: A Crucial Step for Proteas
Johannesburg [South Africa], January 9: JP Duminy, a former cricketer for South Africa, emphasized that the current SA20 season four presents an excellent opportunity for the Proteas to gear up for their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup journey in India and Sri Lanka. He acknowledged that while the playing conditions in Asia may differ, the momentum gained from this tournament could significantly boost their confidence ahead of the prestigious event.
During a recent virtual media session for SA20, Duminy, who amassed over 9,100 runs in 326 international matches for the Proteas, pointed out that following the SA20, the team will engage in three T20 matches against the West Indies, starting January 27. He believes that the confidence built during the SA20 will be beneficial for both the upcoming series and the T20 World Cup.
“This certainly sets the stage for excellent preparation. With three T20Is against the West Indies just before the World Cup, it’s crucial to be fully prepared for such a significant tournament. While conditions may vary, the key is to build confidence. Gaining momentum through the SA20 and the T20s against the West Indies will enhance our chances as we head into the World Cup,” Duminy stated.
In the T20 World Cup, South Africa finds itself in a challenging Group D alongside New Zealand, Afghanistan, Canada, and the UAE. Their campaign will kick off against Canada at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on February 9.
Under the captaincy of Aiden Markram, the squad boasts a blend of experienced players like Quinton de Kock, David Miller, and Kagiso Rabada, along with promising newcomers such as Dewald Brevis and Kwena Maphaka.
After narrowly losing the 2024 final to India by seven runs in Barbados, the Proteas are determined to secure their second major world title, following their ICC World Test Championship victory over Australia last year.
