Buttler Becomes Leading Run-Getter in T20 History

In a remarkable achievement, England's Jos Buttler has overtaken West Indies' Kieron Pollard to become the all-time leading run-scorer in T20 cricket. This milestone was reached during a match for the Manchester Super Giants against Welsh Fire in the Men’s Hundred, where Buttler scored an impressive 51 runs off just 20 balls, featuring two fours and six sixes, achieving a strike rate of 250.00.

With a total of 14,833 runs in 522 T20 matches, Buttler has surpassed Pollard's tally of 14,803 runs from 746 games, as well as the legendary Chris Gayle, who scored 14,562 runs in 463 matches.

Following his record-setting performance, Buttler expressed his pride in becoming the highest run-scorer in T20 history but acknowledged that records are meant to be broken. He specifically mentioned that the young Indian talent, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, could be the one to surpass his record.

Buttler remarked, "It’s really cool to think you’ve got the most T20 runs out of anyone. Someone will surpass it one day – and his name’s probably [Vaibhav] Sooryavanshi – but it’s a proud moment," as reported by Sky Sports.

At just 15 years old, Sooryavanshi has already made a significant impact in T20I cricket, scoring 151 runs in three matches against Zimbabwe and earning the Player of the Series award as India achieved a clean sweep. His earlier success in the ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup, where he scored 439 runs and was named Player of the Tournament, further emphasizes his potential.

Buttler also expressed a desire to have surpassed Pollard while he was present as the head coach of MI London, stating, "It would have been nice to get past Polly while he was there sat in the dugout, but there’s some great names on there, some special players, so I’m really proud of that."

In the match against Welsh Fire, the latter opted to bat first, with notable contributions from Matt Short (71 runs off 47 balls) and Phil Salt (48 runs off 37 balls), leading to a total of 155/4 in 100 balls.
