Jos Buttler Reveals His All-Time IPL XI Featuring Kohli and Gayle
Jos Buttler's All-Time IPL Selection
Jos Buttler, the English cricketer, has unveiled his all-time Indian Premier League (IPL) XI, which notably includes four players from the West Indies, alongside Indian stars like Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. Surprisingly, Rohit Sharma, despite his impressive six IPL titles, was left out of the lineup. Buttler opted for Kohli and Chris Gayle as his opening batsmen, praising Kohli's remarkable consistency throughout his career. He referred to Gayle as the greatest T20 batsman ever. In a podcast with Stuart Broad, Buttler expressed, "Kohli's sheer volume of runs and his record season of nearly 1,000 runs in a single IPL season is extraordinary. Therefore, he takes the top spot, with Gayle as his partner, as he is the most intimidating batsman to bowl to."
Middle Order and All-Rounders
In the middle order, Buttler included Suresh Raina, AB de Villiers, and Kieron Pollard. He referred to Raina as 'Mr. IPL' and highlighted his significant contributions to Chennai Super Kings. Buttler stated, "Raina's success in the IPL is often understated, and he deserves a spot in my all-time XI. AB de Villiers is a no-brainer, and Pollard's achievements with MI are remarkable. His power-hitting is legendary; if you miss your yorker, it could end up in the stands." Buttler also faced a tough decision between Andre Russell and Ravindra Jadeja for the all-rounder position, ultimately choosing Russell for his explosive performances in T20 cricket.
Bowling Lineup
For the bowling department, Buttler selected two spinners and two fast bowlers. He chose Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah as his pace options, while Rashid Khan and Sunil Narine were his spinners. He remarked, "Narine has been an MVP multiple times, and Rashid has been phenomenal since joining the IPL. Malinga was a game-changer with his pace and yorkers, while Bumrah's skills are unmatched in T20 cricket." Buttler acknowledged Dwayne Bravo as a significant omission, noting his impressive record and contributions to the league.
