Jos Buttler Commits to Recovery After Hamstring Surgery
Buttler's Determination to Return Stronger
London [UK], October 12: Jos Buttler has expressed his commitment to regaining full fitness with renewed determination following surgery on his left hamstring, an injury he sustained while batting during England's ODI series against Sri Lanka last month.
The 36-year-old cricketer suffered the injury during England's loss in the second ODI at Headingley on September 24. He initially left the field due to the injury but returned briefly to continue batting.
Buttler has already been ruled out of the upcoming tri-series in Pakistan, with the team set to leave later this week. Additionally, he is expected to miss England's white-ball tour of Australia in November, with the squad announcement scheduled for Tuesday morning.
In an Instagram update on Monday, Buttler shared that he had successfully undergone surgery, posting a photo of himself giving a thumbs-up from his hospital bed, his left leg secured in a brace.
“Surgery went well, and I'm on the path to recovery,” he wrote. “Feeling more motivated than ever!”
This injury has come at a challenging time for Buttler, who was enjoying a remarkable run of form as England's former white-ball captain and two-time World Cup champion. After a tough T20 World Cup in India earlier this year, where he scored only 87 runs as England reached the semi-finals, Buttler rebounded impressively, amassing 466 runs in his next nine white-ball matches.
His comeback included a stunning 69 runs off 49 balls, which featured five sixes, in the innings where he unfortunately sustained the hamstring injury.
On Monday, Buttler and fellow England white-ball stalwart Adil Rashid were awarded one-year contract extensions by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). This extension means Buttler's current contract will conclude before the commencement of next year's 50-over World Cup in South Africa.
