Jasprit Bumrah Reflects on Unique College Cricket Experience
Bumrah's Versatile College Cricket Role
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], January 2: Renowned Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has shared a nostalgic memory from his college days, where he took on a vastly different role than his usual fast bowling persona. He reminisced about a match where he showcased his versatility by bowling off-spin, keeping wickets, and batting at the number six position.
A recent video shared by the Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise captured Bumrah having a light-hearted moment during an IPL training session, sporting wicketkeeping gloves instead of his typical bowling gear. In the clip, he humorously donned the gloves, which are usually reserved for catching the cricket ball.
Bumrah recounted, "In a college match for my university, I bowled off-spin, kept wickets, executed a stumping, and batted at number six. I did it all!"
In the 2025 season, Bumrah concluded with an impressive tally of 45 wickets across 21 matches, maintaining an average of 21.77 and an economy rate of 3.44. He achieved three five-wicket hauls in 25 innings, all in Test matches, with his best performance being 5/27. Additionally, he played a crucial role in India's Asia Cup victory and helped MI reach the IPL 2025 playoffs, finishing with 18 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 17.55, including a five-wicket haul, marking him as one of the top wicket-takers in the tournament.
As he embarks on the year 2026, Bumrah is on the verge of a significant milestone, aiming to become the eighth Indian bowler and the fourth Indian pacer to reach 500 international wickets, needing just 14 more to achieve this feat. To date, he has claimed 486 wickets in 224 matches, averaging 20.60, with 18 five-wicket hauls and a personal best of 6/19.
