Jannik Sinner Dominates Cameron Norrie to Reach Madrid Open Quarter-Finals
Sinner Advances with Convincing Win
Madrid, Spain - On April 28, World No. 1 Jannik Sinner secured his place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Madrid Open, triumphing over Great Britain's Cameron Norrie with a decisive straight-sets victory of 6-2, 7-5 at the Manolo Santana Stadium, as reported by the ATP.
The Italian player showcased his dominance from the outset, wrapping up the match in just 87 minutes during their inaugural ATP encounter. This victory marked Sinner's 20th consecutive win at the tour level and extended his remarkable Masters 1000 winning streak to 25 matches.
Next, Sinner will face either local favorite Rafael Jodar or Vit Kopriva in the quarter-finals. Following his recent titles in Paris last November and victories in Indian Wells, Miami, and Monte-Carlo this season, he aims to make history by becoming the first player to win five consecutive Masters 1000 titles.
Reflecting on the match, Sinner noted that despite it being their first official match, he and Norrie were well-acquainted from previous practice sessions at various tournaments. This familiarity allowed them to anticipate each other's strategies, and Sinner felt particularly confident in his serving during crucial moments.
“We know each other quite well. We practiced a lot together in the past tournaments, so we both kind of knew what to expect. I felt like I was serving quite well today in the important moments,” Sinner commented, as quoted by the ATP.
He also mentioned that the unique surface at the Manolo Santana Stadium presents challenges in assessing his performance. Sinner explained that his on-court sensations do not always align with how his game appears externally. Nevertheless, he expressed his happiness at reaching the quarter-finals once more.
“This surface is very different from all the other surfaces, so it’s quite tough to get the right feedback. Sometimes you feel like you are not playing your best, but from the outside, it seems that you are, and sometimes it is also the opposite. But I’m very happy to be here in the quarters again,” he stated.
The quarter-finals of the 2026 Madrid Open are scheduled for tomorrow.
