Sinner's Heartfelt Tribute to Djokovic After Semifinal Win

London [UK], July 11: Jannik Sinner, currently ranked World No.1, expressed his appreciation for Novak Djokovic following his victory over the Serbian star in the Wimbledon men's singles semifinal. Sinner conveyed his gratitude for the match and shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming title match on Sunday.

After securing a straight-sets win against the seven-time Wimbledon champion, Sinner took to X to commend Djokovic. He wrote, “Always a pleasure to share the court with you @DjokerNole. Thanks for a great match today. Honoured and grateful to be back in the final here at @Wimbledon. See you all on Sunday.”

Sinner showcased an impressive performance, defeating Djokovic in straight sets to reach the Wimbledon finals for the second year in a row. He achieved a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory at the All England Club, avenging his earlier semi-final defeat to Djokovic at the Australian Open earlier this year.

In a post-match interview, Sinner expressed his excitement about returning to the final, stating, “Amazing [to be in the final again]… The atmosphere has been amazing since the first day and it means a lot to me that I can play one more final here.”

He further added, “It’s the most special tournament we have, and it means a lot to me. Of course, playing against Novak and what he has been showing, it’s a true inspiration. Not only for [the crowd] but also for the new generation. What he is still doing is amazing.”

Having previously defeated Carlos Alcaraz to claim his first Wimbledon title in 2025, Sinner is now set to defend his title against Alexander Zverev in the final. If successful, Sinner and Alcaraz will have collectively won 10 of the last 11 major titles, with Zverev's recent Roland Garros victory being the only exception.

Discussing his rivalry with Djokovic, Sinner noted, “We always have very tough matches, and the last one he won in the semis in Australia. So I tried to make a couple of adjustments, even though here on grass it is very difficult.”

He acknowledged Djokovic's recent challenging match against Felix, stating, “He had a very tough match, the last one against Felix, which we will remember I think forever here in this arena. I tried to stay quite aggressive, serving very well which helped me a lot today. He’s probably the best returner we have in our game, so I tried to mix it up. I’m very happy about today’s performance.”

Djokovic, who is tied with Margaret Court for the most Grand Slam singles titles at 24, remains one Wimbledon title behind Roger Federer, who has won seven titles at the All England Club. The Serbian legend will now focus on the US Open later this summer as he aims for a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title, although his return to Wimbledon next year remains uncertain.
