Sinner's Strong Start at the French Open
Paris [France], May 27 (News Media): Jannik Sinner kicked off his French Open 2026 journey on a high note, securing a commanding straight-sets victory against France's Clement Tabur on Wednesday (Indian Standard Time).
The world No. 1 triumphed over Tabur with scores of 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round.
In their inaugural matchup, Sinner showcased his prowess from the baseline, delivering 40 winners and not facing a single break point, as reported by the ATP.
Having won four Grand Slam titles, Sinner is set to meet Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the next round, who advanced after defeating Jacob Fearnley with scores of 6-2, 7-6(0), 7-6(7).
After the match, Sinner expressed his joy at returning to a venue filled with cherished memories. He acknowledged the challenges of first-round matches but emphasized the significance of starting his campaign during a night session, thanking the fans for their support.
It is worth noting that the match between Sinner and Tabur took place during a night session in France.
“I’m thrilled to be back here. This place holds a special significance for me, and I have wonderful memories. First-round matches are always tough, but it’s even more special to kick off the tournament in a night session, so thank you all for staying,” Sinner remarked during his on-court interview, as cited by the ATP.
Currently, Jannik Sinner is riding a remarkable 30-match winning streak, having clinched all five ATP Masters 1000 titles this season—Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, Madrid, and Rome. His recent victory in Rome marked him as only the second player, and the youngest after Novak Djokovic, to achieve the Career Golden Masters.
