ISSO Academy's PE Educators Upskill Program Concludes

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 11: The ISSO Academy, in partnership with the ISF Academy and FIBA, has successfully wrapped up its three-city Physical Education (PE) Educators Upskill Program. The final segment of the Level 1 Coach Education certification took place at Greenwood High in Sarjapur, Bengaluru.

This program was spearheaded by Veselin Matic, a renowned Serbian basketball coach and former Head Coach of the Indian Men's Basketball Team. He introduced participants to globally recognized coaching techniques, player development strategies, and contemporary basketball teaching methods, as detailed in a press release.

Originally intended as a single-city initiative in Gurugram, the program expanded to three cities due to the enthusiastic response from PE educators nationwide.

Following the inaugural session at The Shri Ram School, Aravali, Gurugram, from May 25 to June 2, the program moved to Ascend International School in Mumbai from June 3 to 8, before concluding at Greenwood High from July 1 to 6.

Each session gathered 15 selected PE educators and basketball coaches, offering a comprehensive learning experience under the mentorship of one of the sport's leading coaching figures.

The goal of this initiative was to equip educators with the necessary knowledge and resources to foster better learning environments for young athletes in schools.

After the program's conclusion, Veselin Matic remarked, “Initially, we aimed to work with just one group of educators. The overwhelming response demonstrated the eagerness of teachers and coaches in India to adopt modern coaching techniques. Throughout Gurugram, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, I encountered educators dedicated to their students and committed to continuous improvement. Coach education has a ripple effect, as each teacher inspires hundreds of young athletes, laying the groundwork for long-term sporting success.”

Aakanksha Thapak, Director of ISSO, echoed this sentiment, stating, “The success of this program highlights the increasing demand for top-tier coach education within India's school system. At ISSO, we believe that investing in educators is one of the most effective ways to enhance grassroots sports. Collaborating with esteemed organizations like FIBA and ISF Academy ensures that Indian PE teachers and coaches have access to international standards and best practices, ultimately benefiting every student-athlete.”

The completion of the three-city FIBA Coach Education Program signifies a notable achievement in ISSO's mission to advance school sports through international partnerships and educator development.

Recently, ISSO has successfully implemented globally recognized coach education programs across various sports, including collaborations with the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters), and the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). They have also strengthened sporting pathways through their partnership with the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).

Additionally, ISSO represented India at the ISF Basketball Championship 2026 in Serbia. Through these initiatives, ISSO continues to pursue its vision of establishing globally aligned sporting pathways for students, educators, and coaches within India's international school framework.
