Ishroop Narang's Bronze Medal Bid

In a gripping bronze medal match, Punjab judoka Ishroop Narang fought valiantly but ultimately fell to Canadian competitor Coralie Godbout by yuko, marking the end of India's judo journey at the Commonwealth Games without securing a medal on the final day of the event.

Ishroop's hopes for a medal surged after her impressive victory over the formidable Georgika Wesly Djengue Moune from Cameroon in the repechage round of the women's -78 kg category.

The 19-year-old judoka triumphed with a waza-ari score, despite her opponent initially gaining two yukos.

However, Ishroop faced a challenging match against Godbout, receiving two shidos during regulation time and ultimately losing in the golden score period.

On the final day, fellow Indian judokas Yash Ghangas and Avtar Singh also exited in the round of 16.

India's medal tally stands at 39, including 13 gold and 17 silver, with one remaining competitor, Lisha Das, set to compete in the women's C4-C5 1000m Time Trial Final.

The judo events contributed four medals to India's count, featuring two historic golds, one silver, and a bronze.

Earlier, Ishroop faced a setback in the quarterfinals, losing to England's Emma Reid by Ippon. She incurred two shido penalties while Emma secured two waza-ari scores throughout the four-minute match.

In the round of 16, Ishroop had previously won against Scotland's Nicole Wood, scoring a yuko in the golden score after a tied regulation time.

In the men's judo events, Avtar Singh was eliminated by Ippon against Cyprus' Aristos Michael in the -100kg round of 16, while Ghangas lost to Wales' Joshua Whitehouse in the +100kg category, conceding a yuko midway through their match.

A yuko is awarded for a throw where the opponent lands on their side or near-side, or for a hold-down lasting between 5 to 9 seconds, while Ippon signifies a full point that concludes the match immediately, achieved through a clean throw, a prolonged hold down, or a tap out.
