Ishroop Narang's Impressive Performance

Indian judoka Ishroop Narang successfully advanced to the quarterfinals in the Women's 78-kg category at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday. She achieved victory over Scotland's Nicole Wood by securing a yuko during the golden score period.

The match was tightly contested, remaining scoreless at the end of the regular time, with both competitors receiving a shido penalty each.

The 19-year-old from Punjab managed to break the deadlock one minute and 40 seconds into the golden score, clinching the win with a decisive yuko after a total of five minutes and 40 seconds of action.

In the quarterfinals, Ishroop is set to compete against Emma Reid from England.

On the other hand, Avtar Singh faced defeat in the 100-kg round of 16, losing by Ippon to Aristos Michael from Cyprus.

Yash Ghangas also exited the men's +100 kg category after a 0-1 loss to Wales' Joshua Whitehouse in the Round of 16.

Whitehouse scored the crucial yuko midway through their match and maintained his lead to secure the victory.

Ghangas, who received two shido penalties during the four-minute bout, was unable to recover, marking the end of his campaign in the opening round.

In judo, a yuko is awarded for a throw where the opponent lands on their side or near-side, or for a hold-down lasting between 5 to 9 seconds. An Ippon, the highest score, signifies a full point that concludes the match immediately, achievable through a clean throw, a prolonged hold down, or a tap out.
