Ireland Unveils Young Squad for ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026
Ireland's Squad Announcement for T20 World Cup
New Delhi [India] - Ireland has announced a dynamic 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, set to take place in England and Wales. This marks their return to the international stage after missing the 2024 tournament.
Under the leadership of Gaby Lewis, the team features several players who will be making their debut in the Women’s T20 World Cup. Fresh talents such as Ava Canning, Christina Coulter Reilly, Alana Dalzell, Aimee Maguire, and Lara McBride have been included following their standout performances in recent competitions, as reported by ICC.
This will be Lewis's first time captaining Ireland in a T20 World Cup, having played a crucial role in their qualification earlier this year. She was the top scorer at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier, amassing 276 runs across seven matches, which helped secure Ireland's spot in the tournament.
The batting lineup will also feature seasoned players like Leah Paul, Amy Hunter, and Orla Prendergast, while former captain Laura Delany brings her experience and all-round capabilities to the team.
Delany, who led Ireland in the 2023 tournament, is on the brink of a significant achievement, nearing 100 T20I wickets, a first for any Ireland Women’s player.
The bowling unit will be spearheaded by pace bowler Arlene Kelly, who was the second-highest wicket-taker during the global qualifiers and is expected to excel in the English conditions.
Ireland faces a challenging Group 2, which includes defending champions New Zealand Women, hosts England Women, West Indies Women, Sri Lanka Women, and Scotland Women.
Their campaign kicks off against Scotland at Old Trafford on June 13.
