Kolkata Knight Riders Gear Up for IPL 2026

The 2026 edition of the IPL is just around the corner, kicking off on March 28 (Saturday) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Bengaluru. Fans are particularly eager to see how the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) perform this season. After finishing in 8th place during IPL 2025, the three-time champions are determined to enhance their standing. They have made significant changes to their roster during the auction, but injuries and player withdrawals have posed challenges. Notably, Mustafizur Rahman has been excluded, while Harshit Rana and Matheesha Pathirana are sidelined due to national commitments.

However, there is a glimmer of hope for KKR as Matheesha Pathirana, who suffered an injury during the T20 World Cup 2026, may be on track to return. His manager, Amila Kalugalage, shared an intriguing post on X, featuring Pathirana in a KKR jersey, suggesting he could be ready to play in IPL 2026. The franchise secured his services for Rs 18 crore during the auction.

Harshit Rana's Absence Confirmed

Harshit Rana was initially part of the T20 World Cup 2026 squad but had to withdraw due to a right knee injury that required surgery. He was spotted using crutches at the recent BCCI Naman Awards. Although KKR has not officially announced it, reports indicate that Rana will miss IPL 2026. Additionally, KKR had to let go of Mustafizur Rahman following directives from the BCCI, bringing in Zimbabwean pacer Blessing Muzarabani as his replacement.
