Investigation into Team Protocol Breach

London [UK], June 9: Following England's victory in the first Test against New Zealand at Lord's, captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson are facing scrutiny for allegedly breaching team protocols. Reports indicate that both players were spotted at a nightclub in the early hours of Monday morning.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has released a statement confirming that they are looking into this incident. They stated, “An investigation is underway regarding a breach of team protocols after the first Men's Test against New Zealand. Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were present at a nightclub when an incident occurred.”

Furthermore, the ECB mentioned that they will announce the squad for the upcoming second Test at The Oval, scheduled for June 17, in due time. “We are gathering more information, and an announcement regarding the squad will follow shortly. The Cricket Regulator has been notified, and we will provide updates as they become available,” the statement continued.

This incident marks the second time in recent months that England's players have faced criticism for off-field conduct. Previously, players Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell were scrutinized for their behavior during a trip to Noosa after suffering two significant defeats against Australia in the Ashes series last year.

Additionally, Harry Brook, the captain for England's limited-overs team, was reportedly involved in a confrontation during a tour to New Zealand prior to the Ashes series.

In the first Test at Lord's, England achieved a 115-run victory in a match that concluded in under four days. Ollie Robinson was named 'Player of the Match' for his impressive performance, taking seven wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings. Debutant opener Emilio Gay also made a notable contribution with a half-century in the second innings, setting New Zealand a target of 254 runs. England dismissed the Kiwis for just 138 runs, with Gus Atkinson claiming five wickets in the second innings.
