Inspiring Para-Cricketer Amir Hussain Lone to Attend Independence Day Reception with President Murmu

Amir Hussain Lone's Remarkable Journey

Amir Hussain Lone, a para-cricketer from Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, has received an invitation to attend President Droupadi Murmu's 'At Home' Reception at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre in New Delhi on August 15, coinciding with India's 80th Independence Day celebrations.

This invitation is a significant milestone for Amir, who has become a beacon of inspiration by continuing to pursue cricket despite the loss of both his arms.

In a conversation, Amir expressed his disbelief at the opportunity to meet President Murmu on such a momentous occasion. He stated, “I never imagined I would have the chance to meet President Droupadi Murmu on a day as special as August 15. It is a great honor to be invited for this occasion.”

His family and community have shared in his joy, with Amir noting, “Since receiving the invitation, my family and villagers have been celebrating and congratulating me. Everyone is thrilled.”

Amir also highlighted the rise of sporting talent from Jammu and Kashmir, mentioning the recent selection of speedster Auqib Nabi for the Test series against Sri Lanka. He remarked, “The emergence of players like Auqib Nabi is a source of pride for our region, showcasing the talent that is coming from our valley and contributing to the nation’s glory.”

His invitation to the prestigious event is seen as a recognition of his inspiring journey and contributions to para sports, bringing pride to both Jammu and Kashmir and the entire country.

Previously, Amir has been acknowledged for his determination and achievements in sports. Last year, he was honored by the Ludhiana Bar Association, where he shared his experiences and the challenges he faced after losing both hands at the age of eight.

Reflecting on his journey, Amir mentioned that life became challenging after the incident, but he found purpose and support through cricket, which became his source of strength. He persevered in his passion for the sport despite the obstacles.

Learning to play cricket using his feet posed significant challenges, especially in bowling and throwing the ball. However, Amir's dedication has been unwavering.

Since 2013, Amir has been actively playing professional cricket after a teacher recognized his talent and introduced him to Para Cricket.
