Injuries Sideline New Zealand Pacers Ferguson and Henry from T20I Series Against India

New Zealand's cricket team faces a significant challenge as pacers Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry are ruled out of the ongoing T20I series against India due to injuries. Ferguson's calf injury and Henry's quad strain have led to the inclusion of Matt Fisher in the squad. With the team trailing 3-0 in the series, the coach expresses disappointment but remains hopeful for their return in the upcoming ODIs. The fourth T20I is set for Friday, with the final match on Sunday, as New Zealand aims to turn the series around.

New Zealand Faces Setback in T20I Series

Wellington, New Zealand - October 29: The New Zealand cricket team will be without pacers Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry for the remainder of their five-match T20I series against India due to injuries, as reported by the ICC.

Ferguson sustained a calf injury during the second T20I held in Christchurch and is expected to be out for at least a week. Meanwhile, Henry suffered a quad injury in the same match and will require up to two weeks for recovery.

In response to these injuries, the Black Caps have added fast bowler Matt Fisher to their squad for the last two T20Is against India. They are optimistic about having both Ferguson and Henry available for the upcoming One Day Internationals (ODIs) starting November 4. The fourth T20I is scheduled for Friday, followed by the final match on Sunday.

New Zealand's coach, Rob Walter, expressed disappointment over the injuries, stating, “We are gutted for Lockie and Matt. Injuries are an unfortunate aspect of international cricket, but it’s always tough to miss games.”

He added, “Fortunately for Matt, he was already set to miss the remaining T20Is to focus on his extensive summer schedule, and we are hopeful he will play a significant role in the ODIs.”

Walter also mentioned Ferguson's eagerness to play in front of a packed Eden Park crowd, saying, “Lockie was excited to play, but he is determined to return for the ODIs.”

Currently, New Zealand is trailing 3-0 in the T20I series against India.

New Zealand squad includes: Mitchell Santner (c), Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Josh Clarkson, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Matt Fisher, Zak Foulkes, Bevon Jacobs, Adam Milne, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert, Nathan Smith, Blair Tickner.
