Strong Start for Indian Boxers at Asian Championships
Tashkent [Uzbekistan], May 3: The Indian U-17 girls' boxing team kicked off their campaign at the Asian Boxing U-17 Championships 2026 with an impressive performance, achieving five victories on the opening day in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Leading the way was Rakhi (48kg), who showcased her skills by defeating her opponent from Sri Lanka through a Referee Stopping Contest (RSC) in the first round.
Ovi (50kg) continued the winning streak, earning a unanimous 5-0 decision against her Iranian rival, while Mamta (52kg) also secured a convincing 5-0 victory over her Thai competitor.
Lakshmi (54kg) maintained the momentum with another dominant 5-0 win against Korea, demonstrating her control throughout the match.
Navya (57kg) concluded a remarkable day for the Indian team, winning by RSC in Round 1 against Vietnam.
In the boys' division, Neela Narendra Kumar (46kg) delivered a strong performance, achieving a first-round RSC victory over Khalid Alhossah from Saudi Arabia. However, Daksh Pawar (48kg) faced a challenging match and lost 0-5 to Tajikistan's Firuzjon Boymatov.
With the girls' strong performances and a promising start from the boys, India aims to maintain this positive momentum as the tournament continues, with more matches scheduled in the upcoming days.
