India's Tour of Bangladesh Faces Potential Postponement Amid Ongoing Discussions
Uncertainty Surrounds India's Upcoming Tour of Bangladesh
New Delhi, August 20: The president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Tamim Iqbal, has suggested that the upcoming tour of India to Bangladesh might be delayed once again. He mentioned that discussions are ongoing between the BCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the series, as reported by a sports news outlet.
Initially, India was set to visit Bangladesh in August of the previous year, but the series was postponed to September 2026. In January, the BCB confirmed that India would compete in three ODIs and three T20Is in Dhaka and Chattogram. However, the BCCI has yet to make any formal announcement about the tour.
With the first ODI slated for September 3, just two weeks away, there remains uncertainty about whether the series will proceed as scheduled.
During a press conference in Dhaka, Tamim introduced the Game Development Trophy, an age-group tournament, and the BCB released its schedule, with all matches planned to take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium from August 28 to September 9.
When questioned if the tournament schedule implied that India would not be touring, Tamim indicated that there might be a "slight change" in the schedule, hinting at a possible adjustment to India's tour dates.
He stated, "Both boards are in discussions regarding the India series. The dates may be adjusted. This tournament is set to occur in Mirpur, but it can be moved to the Basundhara ground quickly. If the India series is confirmed, we will arrange the schedule accordingly."
After the BCB announced the tour in January, relations between the two cricket boards soured further when Kolkata Knight Riders withdrew Bangladesh all-rounder Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL. Following this, the BCB, led by Aminul Islam, opted not to send its team to the T20 World Cup co-hosted by India.
Nonetheless, relations have started to improve since Tamim, who recently assumed the role of BCB president, visited India earlier this month. He reportedly toured the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru during his trip.
