Following their impressive victory at the 2026 T20 World Cup, where India successfully defended their title for the third time, the national cricket team is now setting its sights on the 2028 tournament. This upcoming event, scheduled to take place in Australia and New Zealand during October and November, presents an opportunity for India to achieve a historic hat-trick of titles. Additionally, cricket will return to the Olympics after a 128-year hiatus, with the T20 format featured at the Los Angeles Games in July 2028. India is expected to qualify directly based on their current rankings.

While One Day Internationals (ODIs) will take precedence in the next 18 months, the excitement surrounding T20 cricket is palpable, especially with two major tournaments on the horizon. The chance to be the first team to secure an Olympic gold medal in T20 cricket is a significant motivation for the players.

Potential Squad for the 2028 T20 World Cup and Olympics

As discussions about the squad begin, questions arise regarding the future of Suryakumar Yadav, who, at 37 during the Olympics, may face challenges due to his recent form.
