India's Historic T20I Match Against Japan

Nagoya, Japan - On September 19, the Indian men's cricket team is set to don the BCCI jersey for their landmark One-Off T20I match against Japan. A source from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) confirmed that the team has also received its official kit for the Asian Games, resolving previous concerns regarding sizing and availability.

According to the MYAS source, "The Indian team will wear the BCCI jersey for the friendly match against Japan. They have received their Asian Games kit for the tournament, and the issue has been addressed." The 20th Asian Games are taking place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, with India competing in 36 different sports. India, who secured a Gold medal in the last Asian Games, will commence their campaign in the quarter-finals on September 28.

The MYAS source further elaborated that the match against Japan is classified as a friendly and not part of the Asian Games, which is why the team will wear their regular kit. "Since this match is not part of the Asian Games, the team will play in their usual attire. However, the size issue has been resolved for the tournament kit," the source added.

This clarification follows concerns regarding the Indian team's official kit ahead of the continental multi-sport event. The T20 International match is also intended to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Japan, as stated in a release from the BCCI.

The Suzuki Cup is scheduled to be held at the Sano International Cricket Ground in Tochigi Prefecture on September 22. The BCCI's press release noted that the India-Japan T20I match marks the beginning of the "Sport 75" initiative, which emerged from discussions between Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This initiative aims to foster human exchanges and cooperation in sports, particularly as India aspires to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed excitement about participating in this historic T20I in Japan, emphasizing its significance in expanding the reach of Indian cricket into new territories. "The BCCI is thrilled to be part of this momentous occasion as the Indian and Japanese teams unite for a special T20 International. This is a pivotal moment for cricket, allowing us to introduce the sport to a broader audience in Japan and East Asia," Saikia remarked.
