Cricket Review Meeting at BCCI Headquarters

On September 3, a significant gathering took place at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters in Mumbai, where India’s T20I captain Shreyas Iyer, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and Centre of Excellence head VVS Laxman, along with key BCCI officials, convened for a review meeting.

The meeting, which was anticipated following India's recent losses in Ireland and England, had been postponed due to the team's two-Test tour of Sri Lanka. Iyer, Gambhir, Laxman, and several senior officials were seen arriving at the venue, with further details about the discussions yet to be disclosed.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and president Mithun Manhas are also set to participate, alongside Shubman Gill, who captained the ODI and Test teams.

India faced a challenging T20I series against Ireland, suffering a 2-0 defeat, and continued to struggle in England, where they lost the five-match T20I series 4-0, including a significant 125-run defeat in Nottingham. Additionally, they lost the ODI series 2-1 under Gill's leadership.

Looking ahead, India is preparing for a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, with Iyer returning as captain and Tilak Varma appointed as vice-captain.

Jasprit Bumrah is expected to rejoin the squad, pending fitness clearance, alongside Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, and Harshit Rana. Bumrah last played internationally on July 16 against England but missed subsequent matches due to an injury sustained while fielding.

The T20I series against Afghanistan will commence on September 13, with matches scheduled for September 15 and 17, all taking place at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in New Delhi.
