Historic Achievements by Indian Boxers

New Delhi, August 4: The President of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), Ajay Singh, praised the remarkable achievements of Indian boxers at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, asserting that they have positioned themselves among the elite globally after their impressive performances in Glasgow.

The Indian boxing team, which included gold medalists Jaismine Lamboria, Arundhati Choudhary, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas, and Preeti Pawar, received a warm welcome at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Tuesday morning, celebrating their outstanding results in Scotland.

During the event, Ajay Singh remarked, “We achieved a historic milestone at the CWG. No nation has ever secured 7 gold medals in boxing at a single Commonwealth Games. We take immense pride in our boxers and aim to maintain this momentum. We are now recognized as one of the top boxing nations globally and aspire to reach the pinnacle.”

India's boxing team delivered an unprecedented performance, finishing with seven gold and three silver medals, thus leading the boxing medal tally. This achievement surpassed the previous record of six gold medals held by England (1934 and 2018) and Canada (1986).

Ankush Panghal clinched the seventh gold for India by defeating England's Dimeji Shittu 4-1 in the men's 80kg final, while Narender Berwal secured a silver medal in the men's 90+kg category after losing to England's Damar Thomas.

Other gold medalists included Sachin Siwach, Jaismine Lamboria, Preeti Pawar, Sakshi Chaudhary, Arundhati Choudhary, and Priya Ghanghas. Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain and Jadumani Singh contributed silver medals, rounding off the country's historic medal tally.

Sachin Siwach made a stunning comeback to defeat Namibia's Tryagain Morning Ndevelo in the men's 60kg final, while reigning world champion Jaismine Lamboria dominated Northern Ireland's defending champion Michaela Walsh 5-0 in the women's 57kg final.

Arundhati Choudhary triumphed over England's Chantelle Reid 5-0 in the women's 70kg final, Preeti Pawar won against Canada's Scarlett Delgado by the same score in the women's 54kg final, Sakshi Chaudhary achieved a convincing 5-0 victory over England's Ruby White in the women's 51kg final, and Priya Ghanghas claimed the women's 60kg title with a 4-1 win over Canada's Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh.

Among the silver medalists, Lovlina Borgohain narrowly missed out on gold, losing 1-4 to Australia's Emma-Sue Greentree in the women's 75kg final, while Jadumani Singh earned silver in the men's 55kg category after being defeated by Australia's Jye Dixon.

This remarkable performance in Glasgow highlights India's rising prominence in international boxing and marks the country's most successful Commonwealth Games campaign in the sport.
