Indian Women Shine in Shooting at Asian Games

In Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on September 29, the Indian women's shooting squad, comprising Neeru, Aashima Ahlawat, and Manisha Keer, achieved a remarkable silver medal in the women's trap team event during the Asian Games 2026.

The trio amassed a total of 328 points, finishing three points ahead of Kuwait, who took home the bronze with 325 points. China dominated the event, clinching the gold medal with a score of 346 points.

Neeru delivered an outstanding individual performance, scoring 118 out of 125, which significantly contributed to the team's silver medal achievement. Aashima and Manisha added scores of 106 and 104, respectively, out of a possible 125.

Neeru also topped the individual qualifying round, tying with Qatar's Ray Bassil, and is set to compete in the individual finals later today.

This silver medal marks a significant accomplishment for India in the women's trap team event at the ongoing Asian Games in Japan.

In archery, Indian athletes Dhiraj Bommadevara and Neeraj Chauhan progressed to the men's recurve individual quarterfinals after winning their Round of 16 matches. Dhiraj triumphed over Girvin Garcia from the Philippines 6-0 in the Round of 32, while Neeraj defeated Indonesia's Riau Ega Agata Salsabilla 6-4. In the Round of 16, Dhiraj won against Cheng Hsiang-Hui from Chinese Taipei 6-2, and Neeraj overcame South Korea's Kim Je-deok 6-4.

In cycling, the men's team sprint qualification saw Rojit Singh, David Beckham, and Ronaldo Singh finish seventh out of eight teams, while Celestina, Sarita Kumari, and Keerthi Rangaswamy Chikka placed sixth in the women's event. In kurash, Vipin Kumar faced a 0-3 defeat against South Korea's Hoon Hyeon-su in the men's 66kg Round of 16, and surfer Kishore Kumar Anbarasu lost 5.37-8.53 to the Philippines' Toby Espejon in the men's shortboard quarterfinal.

In women's squash, India achieved a clean sweep against Iran in their final pool match, winning 3-0. Tanvi Khanna received a walkover after Narges Soltani retired in the first game, while Anahat Singh defeated Fereshteh Eghtedari 3-0 (11-5, 11-4, 11-7), and Joshna Chinappa triumphed over Najmeh Boushehrizadeh 3-0 (11-1, 11-3, 11-9). With this victory, India won all three group matches and advanced to the quarterfinals.
