Indian Women's Hockey Team Finishes as Runners-Up

Muscat [Oman], July 26: The Indian Women's Hockey Team secured the runner-up position at the FIH Youth Hockey5s Asian Championship held in Muscat, Oman, after suffering a 2-4 defeat against China in the final match on Saturday.

India advanced to the final with an impressive 8-1 win over Kazakhstan in the semi-finals, as reported in a press release.

China started the final strongly, with Tongtong Lu scoring in the first minute. Kexin Tang extended their lead in the 5th minute, and Jiaxin Guo added another goal just a minute later, putting India in a challenging position.

After halftime, India fought back as Nousheen Naz scored in the 13th minute, narrowing the gap. However, Chen Ge quickly restored China's three-goal lead in the 19th minute. Pushpa Manjhi's goal in the 20th minute gave India a glimmer of hope, but China ultimately held on to win 4-2 and claim the championship title.

In the semi-final, India showcased a dominant performance against Kazakhstan. Sandeepa Kumari opened the scoring in the 5th minute, followed by Pushpa Manjhi, who netted three goals, including two in the 8th minute, establishing a strong lead for India.

Kazakhstan's Ayanat Mazhim managed to score in the 10th minute, but India maintained control throughout the match. Captain Diya scored twice in the 13th and 16th minutes, with Shruti Kumari also contributing a goal in the 16th minute. Nousheen Naz capped off the scoring in the 20th minute, leading to an emphatic 8-1 victory that secured their place in the final.

In recognition of their remarkable achievement, Hockey India announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for each player on the Indian Women's Hockey Team and Rs 50,000 for each member of the support staff.

With their stellar performance in Muscat, India has also qualified for the FIH Youth Hockey5s World Cup, marking a significant milestone for the young team on the international stage.
