Indian Women's Cricket Team Secures Historic Series Victory Against England
Historic Win for Indian Women’s Cricket Team
London [UK], July 10: The Indian women's cricket team achieved a remarkable feat by clinching a historic series victory over England, winning the fourth T20 match by six wickets at Old Trafford, Manchester, on Wednesday.
This victory granted India an unbeatable 3-1 lead in the series, with the final match scheduled at Edgbaston on Saturday, as reported by a sports news outlet.
Entering the series, India had faced defeats in all six of their previous multi-game away series against England.
After winning the toss, England chose to bat first, starting steadily with openers Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Sophia Dunkley. However, the momentum shifted when Shree Charani dismissed Wyatt-Hodge in the third over, leaving the score at 21/1.
At the end of the powerplay, England was at 38/2, with Dunkley looking confident until she was outfoxed by Deepti Sharma for 22 runs off 19 balls. Captain Tammy Beaumont and Alice Capsey then formed a partnership, taking the score to 68/2 with a 35-run collaboration.
From that point, India's bowlers tightened their grip on the game. Led by Radha Yadav, England could only muster 42 runs while losing five wickets in the next nine overs. Yadav's impressive figures of 2/15 in four overs were crucial in applying pressure during the middle overs.
Shree Charani also contributed significantly with two wickets for 30 runs. Despite a late surge of 16 runs in the final over from Issy Wong and Sophie Ecclestone, England finished their innings at 126/7 in 20 overs.
In response, India's openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana started aggressively, reaching the team's fifty in just 4.4 overs, capitalizing on the fielding restrictions.
The pair added 56 runs before Shafali Verma was dismissed in the seventh over, followed by Mandhana two overs later.
Jemimah Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur then formed a crucial 48-run partnership, bringing India close to victory. Kaur was out with just 10 runs needed off 25 balls.
Rodrigues remained not out, leading India to victory with three overs to spare.
India commenced the series with a record-setting 97-run win in the first match at Trent Bridge, marking their largest T20I victory over England. They followed this with a 24-run win in Bristol before narrowly losing the third T20I by five runs.
The fifth and final match of the ENG-W vs IND-W T20 series will take place in Birmingham on Saturday.
Brief scores: England 126/7 in 20 overs (Sophia Dunkley 22, Radha Yadav 2/15) lost to India 127/4 in 17 overs (Smriti Mandhana 32; Sophie Ecclestone 1/20).
