In Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, President Droupadi Murmu extended her congratulations to the Indian women's cricket team for clinching the gold medal in the Women's T20 Cricket event at the Asian Games. This remarkable achievement marks India's first gold medal of the Games, instilling immense pride across the nation.

President Murmu commended the team's outstanding performance, resilience, and collaborative spirit, emphasizing that their success serves as a powerful inspiration for the youth of India, especially young girls and women.

The Indian team triumphed over Sri Lanka by a significant margin of 147 runs in the final match held on Tuesday, securing their second consecutive gold medal at the Asian Games. This victory also represents India's inaugural gold in the current edition of the Games.

In a post on X, President Murmu expressed her heartfelt congratulations to Team India, stating, "Your historic victory has secured India its first Gold Medal in this edition of the Games and brought immense pride to the nation. Reactions from Officials and Recognition for Players

Jay Shah, the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), along with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, also praised the Indian women's cricket team for their gold medal achievement. Shah highlighted that this accomplishment underscores the growing strength of women's cricket and its readiness for major multi-sport events, especially with cricket's return to the Olympics in LA28.

In his post on X, Shah congratulated the Indian women's team and acknowledged Sri Lanka for their silver medal, stating, "As we look ahead to cricket’s return to the Olympics at #LA28, spectacles like this prove that the women’s game is ready to command the biggest multi-sport stages."

Tamil Nadu CM Vijay specifically recognized Gunalan Kamalini from Madurai, a member of the gold-medal-winning team, announcing a cash award of Rs 75 lakh in her honor. He expressed hope that Kamalini's success would motivate young athletes and women throughout Tamil Nadu.

Path to the Final

Both India and Sri Lanka reached the final with relative ease, as India overcame Japan in the quarter-finals and Bangladesh in the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka secured their spot by defeating Malaysia and Pakistan in their respective knockout matches.

The Women in Blue had previously won the gold medal at the 2023 edition by defeating Sri Lanka by 19 runs in the final held in Hangzhou.
