Celebrating New Beginnings in Ujjain

On January 1, 2026, the victorious members of the Indian women's cricket team, who claimed the ICC World Cup 2025 title, participated in the Bhasm Aarti at the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, to mark the New Year.

The Women in Blue made history with a remarkable performance, securing their first ICC Women’s World Cup title. Their journey was filled with challenges, as they faced three consecutive losses against South Africa, Australia, and England, putting their chances of advancing in jeopardy.

However, a pivotal moment came when they triumphed over New Zealand by 53 runs, reigniting their hopes. In the semi-finals, they achieved a record-breaking run chase of 339 against Australia, marking the highest chase in World Cup knockout history for both men’s and women’s tournaments.

After previous disappointments in the finals of 2005 and 2017, the team delivered a stellar performance to defeat South Africa by 52 runs, finally lifting the coveted trophy.

This victory was a significant achievement for head coach Amol Muzumdar and captain Harmanpreet Kaur, fulfilling a long-held dream for Indian women's cricket.

Recently, under Harmanpreet's leadership, the Indian team completed a clean sweep against Sri Lanka, winning all five matches in the T20I series. This marked their third 5-0 series victory in T20Is, having previously accomplished this against the West Indies in 2019 and Bangladesh in 2024.

For Sri Lanka Women, this was their first experience of a 5-0 defeat in a five-match T20I series.
