Historic Victory for Indian Women's Blind Cricket Team
New Delhi, November 25: Deepika TC, a member of the Indian women's blind cricket team, expressed her elation after leading the squad to a remarkable victory at the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup 2025. The Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) officials, including General Secretary Shailendra Yadav and Chairman Mahantesh G.K., also shared their pride in the team's achievement.
In the final match held in Colombo, India secured a seven-wicket win against Nepal. After winning the toss, India chose to bowl first, showcasing a stellar bowling performance that limited Nepal to 114 runs for 5 wickets in their 20 overs. India’s batting lineup then efficiently chased down the target, scoring 100 runs within the first ten overs.
Deepika expressed her pride in the team's accomplishment, acknowledging the support from CABI, Samarthanam (Trust for the Disabled), and the Karnataka government, and noted that Prime Minister Modi also extended his congratulations.
“We are incredibly proud. Our girls performed exceptionally well... The support from CABI, Samarthanam, and the Karnataka government has been invaluable. PM Modi congratulated us, which makes us very happy,” Deepika stated during an interview.
Shailendra Yadav, CABI's General Secretary, mentioned the warm reception the team received from the Karnataka Chief Minister and highlighted an upcoming felicitation event organized by the sports minister, along with financial assistance announced by the Karnataka government for each player.
“It is a tremendous honor... They have already been welcomed by the Karnataka CM. They will head directly to the sports minister's residence for a felicitation program... The Karnataka government has pledged financial support for every player,” Yadav remarked.
Mahantesh G.K., Chairman of CABI, described the moment as one of pride, commending the girls for their achievement and noting the positive reaction from the nation regarding their victory.
“This is a very joyous occasion. The response from all of India to our girls' victory has been overwhelmingly positive... Our girls have truly made India proud,” G.K. stated.
