Indian Women's Blind Cricket Team Honored for World Cup Triumph
Celebrating a Historic Victory
New Delhi, November 25: Mansukh Mandaviya, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, hosted the Indian women's blind cricket team at his residence on Tuesday to celebrate their remarkable achievement in the inaugural Blind Twenty20 World Cup, according to a statement from SAI Media.
The Indian squad triumphed over Nepal by seven wickets in the final match held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Sunday, finishing the tournament without a single loss. The competition included six teams: India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia, and the USA.
This victory for the blind cricket team follows closely after the Indian women's team secured their first ICC Cricket World Cup title on home ground.
Mandaviya praised the blind cricketers, stating, “The Indian women’s blind cricket team has made our nation proud. Their success serves as a significant inspiration for specially-abled athletes and anyone striving to bring honor to our country. Through their determination and resilience, they achieved the extraordinary. I wish each member the best in their future endeavors, and I encourage you to give your all in upcoming tournaments; the entire nation and government stand behind you,” as reported by SAI Media.
Deepika TC, the captain of the Indian team, expressed her gratitude, saying, “I am incredibly happy and honored that our esteemed Sports Minister invited us to his residence for this recognition. It was wonderful to engage with him. His encouraging words will not only motivate us but also inspire more women from the blind community to pursue sports as a career and make our country proud through their dedication and hard work.”
