Indian Women Shuttlers Face Tough Matches at Malaysia Masters
Malvika Bansod and Devika Sihag Exit Early
Kuala Lumpur [Malaysia], May 21: In a challenging day at the Malaysia Masters, Indian badminton players Malvika Bansod and Devika Sihag were eliminated in the second round, as reported by a sports news outlet.
Malvika, currently ranked 51st in the world, initially took the lead in her match against Denmark's eighth seed, Line Kjaersfeldt, who is ranked 23rd. Despite winning the first game 21-16, she ultimately lost the match with scores of 8-21 and 15-21.
Malvika began strong, leading 11-6 at the interval in the first game, but the momentum shifted dramatically in the second game as Line surged ahead, winning the first eight points and forcing a decisive third game.
In the final game, Malvika held an 11-8 advantage, but after the break, Line regained control and secured the victory.
This match marked the second victory for Olympian Line over Malvika in their three encounters. Meanwhile, Devika faced a tough opponent in former Olympic champion and top seed Chen Yufei from China, losing 21-16, 21-13.
On a brighter note, Ashmita Chaliha showcased her talent by advancing to the women's singles quarterfinals after defeating Malaysia's Goh Jin Wei with a score of 21-13, 21-16 at the Stadium Axiata Arena.
Starting from the qualifiers, Ashmita demonstrated her dominance against the world No. 55, winning the first game comfortably. Although Jin Wei attempted to rally in the second game, Ashmita maintained her composure, finishing the match in just 27 minutes, according to a statement from the Badminton Association of India (BAI).
This victory marks Ashmita's third appearance in the quarterfinals of a Super 500 event. She is set to face eighth seed Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt of Denmark, who previously defeated two Indian players, Anmol Kharb and Malvika Bansod, in earlier rounds.
