India Secures 2-0 Victory Against Myanmar

Yangon [Myanmar], March 12: The Indian U17 women's football team showcased a strong performance, defeating Myanmar 2-0 in their first international friendly match held at Thuwunna Stadium on Thursday, as reported by a local sports source.

This friendly match is part of India's preparations for the upcoming AFC U17 Women's Asian Cup, set to take place in Suzhou, China, from May 1 to May 17. Myanmar, also qualified for the tournament, is utilizing these matches to enhance their readiness. The second friendly is scheduled for Saturday.

India displayed a well-rounded performance, scoring once in each half while keeping a clean sheet against a determined Myanmar team. Goalkeeper Munni was pivotal during critical moments, and the defense, led by Abhista Basnett and Elizabed Lakra, remained solid throughout the match.

The Young Tigresses started the match with confidence, aiming to control possession and create calculated attacking opportunities. Myanmar, however, pressed high in the first half, attempting to disrupt India's flow. Despite this, India gradually found their rhythm and began to generate significant chances.

The first notable opportunity came in the 31st minute when captain Julan Nongmaithem sent a pass to Alisha Lyngdoh on the left. Lyngdoh's cross into the box was met by Pearl Fernandes, but her header went off target.

India finally broke the deadlock in the 38th minute through a well-executed play. After regaining possession, Redima Devi Chingkhamayum played a precise through ball to Pritika Barman. The winger skillfully maneuvered past her defender and rounded the Myanmar goalkeeper, slotting the ball into an empty net to give India a 1-0 lead before halftime.

While Myanmar showed some fight in the first half, India took complete control in the second half. Under the guidance of coach Pamela Conti, the team increased their tempo and dominated possession, pushing Myanmar back.

Just four minutes into the second half, India extended their lead. Alva Devi Senjam made a dynamic run down the left flank, delivering a perfectly timed cross into the box. Pritika Barman was on hand to volley the ball into the net, doubling India's advantage.

This goal shifted the momentum firmly in India's favor, as Myanmar struggled to keep pace with the visitors' speed and movement. India continued to control the game and nearly scored again in the 60th minute when Abhista's powerful free-kick from over 30 yards hit the crossbar.

Despite this near miss, India maintained their composure and controlled the game's tempo for the remainder of the match. Their disciplined defense and effective ball movement kept Myanmar at bay, allowing India to comfortably secure the victory.
