Indian U-17 Boxers Compete at Asian Championships
Tashkent [Uzbekistan], May 12: The Indian U-17 boxing team faced tough competition at the Asian Boxing U17 Championships 2026, with Lakshay Phogat standing out as the sole finalist. Meanwhile, four other boxers earned bronze medals after their semifinal matches held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
In the 75kg division, Lakshay Phogat showcased an impressive performance, defeating Seungmin Lee from Korea (KOR) with a unanimous 5:0 decision, securing his spot in the finals. In contrast, Narendra Nella (46kg) lost 0:5 to Abdulloh Nuraliev from Uzbekistan (UZB), as reported in a press release.
Yash Yadav (50kg) faced a 1:4 defeat against Suld Usukhbaatar from Mongolia (MGL), while Nivesh Pal (54kg) was defeated 0:5 by Abdulbosit Yursunboev of Uzbekistan (UZB). In a tightly contested match, Naman (70kg) lost 2:3 to Abduvohid Abdumajidov from Uzbekistan (UZB).
With one finalist and four bronze medals achieved across different weight classes, the Indian U-17 boys' team aims to conclude the tournament on a high note.
Earlier in the competition, Rakhi (46kg) made a strong impression with a commanding RSC victory in the third round against Yating Zhang from China (CHN). Khushi Chand also excelled in the 48kg category, winning decisively with a 5:0 score against Mungunzul Altamgadasa from Mongolia (MGL).
In the 52kg category, Mamta Murlidhar Raut lost 0:5 to Yaxin Qiu from China (CHN), while Laxmi Manjunath Lamani (54kg) fell 1:4 to Kumriniso Muhammadova from Uzbekistan (UZB). Navya (57kg) advanced to the finals after winning by RSC in the second round against Dagiimaa Chuluutumur from Mongolia (MGL).
Ishika (60kg) narrowly lost 2:3 to Balym Gabitkyzy from Kazakhstan (KAZ). Diya (63kg) achieved a strong first-round RSC victory over Jia-En Song from Chinese Taipei (TPE). In the 66kg category, Harnoor Kaur lost 0:5 to Ayaulym Ospanova from Kazakhstan (KAZ).
Himanshi (70kg) won by RSC in the first round against Jude Habi from Jordan (JOR). Jyoti (75kg) also progressed with an RSC win in the first round against Cheng-Hui Zou from Chinese Taipei (TPE).
Vanshika (80kg) secured a solid 4:1 victory over Feruzabonu Kamolova from Uzbekistan (UZB). In the 80+kg category, Gurseerat Kaur clinched her place in the finals with a first-round RSC win against Xin-Ying Huang from Chinese Taipei (TPE).
