India's Teqball Team Secures Spot in Bronze Medal Match

In Nagoya, Japan, on September 18, India's Quimcy Joaquim Dsouza and Mohamed Anas Imran Beg triumphed over the Philippines' Abulencia Jhoana and Agustin Prince with a score of 2-0 in the mixed doubles repechage, earning them a chance to compete for the bronze medal at the 2026 Asian Games. The Indian pair will aim for a podium finish on Sunday.

The duo dominated the first set of the repechage, winning 12-3, and followed it up with a 12-6 victory in the second set, sealing their win in straight sets.

Previously, Dsouza and Beg faced a setback in the mixed doubles quarter-finals against Vietnam's Gian Nghi Trinh and Hoang Minh Tan Nguyen, losing 0-2. They struggled initially, dropping the first set 12-7, and although they put up a stronger fight in the second, they fell short, losing 12-10.

This defeat eliminated them from contention for gold and silver medals.

The Indian pair advanced to the quarter-finals after a tough preliminary round, finishing with two wins and two losses in their group matches. Their qualification was confirmed with a decisive victory over Kuwait in their last group game.

Dsouza and Beg kicked off their campaign with a solid 2-0 win against the Philippines, setting a positive tone for their Group A journey.

However, their second match was a nail-biter, where they narrowly lost 1-2 to Cambodia's Bun Thuonvireak and Yorn Sophornraksmy in a closely contested three-set match.

The challenges continued in their third group match, where they were defeated 0-2 by Thailand's Dejaroen Phakpong and Wongkhamchan Suphawadi.

Facing a must-win situation in their final group match, Dsouza and Beg responded brilliantly against Kuwait's Alebraheem Salman and Alfailakawi Hessah, winning the first set 12-1 and finishing the match with a 12-6 second set.

This victory brought their record to 2-2, allowing them to progress to the quarter-finals, where they were ultimately defeated by Vietnam.

Additionally, Dsouza is set to compete in the women's singles event, having topped Group A with victories over opponents from Japan and Cambodia. She will face Indonesia's Sumaya in the semi-finals on Saturday.
