A Historic Debut for Indian Rallying

Las Palmas [Spain], April 21: Indian rallying is poised for a significant milestone as TSI Racing prepares to make its mark on the global scene. Dean Mascarenhas, along with co-driver Gagan Karumbaiah, is set to compete in the FIA World Rally Championship's WRC3 class during the prestigious Rally Islas Canarias 2026, commencing this Thursday.

This year's Rally Islas Canarias is particularly special, marking its 50th anniversary. Located on Gran Canaria Island, which hosts the capital city of Las Palmas, the rally will encompass 18 Special Stages (SS) covering a competitive distance of 301.30 kilometers.

The entire route is asphalt, making it a complete tarmac event. The Indian duo will navigate the fast and technical stages of Gran Canaria in a Ford Fiesta Rally3, competing against a strong WRC3 lineup over four days.

Their participation signifies not only a personal achievement but also the resurgence of a team that has been instrumental in advancing India's international rallying aspirations for nearly two decades. They will face off against experienced European teams, relying on the support from PH Sport, whose expertise at the highest levels ensures they are well-prepared for this challenge.

This endeavor is not a fleeting appearance but rather the culmination of a meticulously planned program.

Mohan Nagarajan emphasized, “TSI Racing was not established merely to win championships and then fade away... Dean is ready. Gagan is ready. As a team, we have never been more equipped to represent India in the World Rally Championship.”

The WRC initiative, announced in March, builds on Mascarenhas' impressive performance in the 2025 Indian National Rally Championship and signifies a strategic return to the international arena. TSI's legacy in this domain is profound, having previously paved the way for Indian rally legends like Gaurav Gill and Naren Kumar to enter the WRC ecosystem. This legacy continues with Mascarenhas, who is recognized as one of the most reliable competitors in the country.

Mascarenhas expressed, “This is a moment I have been striving for a long time. Gagan and I have collaborated extensively, and TSI Racing has provided us with everything necessary. The WRC is the premier platform, and we are committed to giving it our all. Our testing went well, and we feel ready with the new car and setup.”

The reigning national co-driver champion brings a calm precision, thorough reconnaissance, and a well-established synergy with Mascarenhas, qualities that could be crucial on new terrain.

More than just a debut, this represents a declaration of intent. Mascarenhas joins a select group of Indians competing in multiple WRC rounds, highlighting a steady resurgence on the global stage. With TSI Racing leading the charge, India's rallying narrative is gaining momentum once again, driven by structure, confidence, and a long-term vision.
