Indian Javelin Athletes Shine at Asian Games 2026 with Silver and Bronze Medals

Outstanding Performance by Indian Javelin Throwers

In a remarkable display of skill, Indian javelin throwers Yashvir Singh and Rohit Yadav secured silver and bronze medals in the men's javelin throw final at the Asian Games 2026 held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Monday. Yashvir achieved a personal best of 85.72 meters during his final throw.

The gold medal was claimed by Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, who recorded a throw of 88.55 meters, also marking his best effort on the last attempt. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem finished in fourth place with a throw of 80.29 meters.

Yashvir started the final round in third position but elevated his performance to secure the silver medal with his personal best. He began the competition with an initial throw of 83.56 meters, consistently remaining in the top three before his final attempt.

Rohit Yadav earned the bronze medal with a best throw of 84.35 meters. He opened with a throw of 77.25 meters, followed by improvements to 82.40 meters in the second round and 84.35 meters in the third. Although he fouled on his final attempt, his earlier throw was sufficient for a podium finish.

Pathirage took the lead with an 88.33-meter throw in the fourth round after starting with 73.53 meters, ultimately improving to 88.55 meters on his last attempt.

This impressive double podium finish in men's javelin has contributed to India's overall medal tally, which now stands at 45, including four gold, 20 silver, and 21 bronze medals. India is currently ranked 12th in the medal standings, with athletics alone contributing 19 medals to the nation's total at this continental event.
