On August 8, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, extended his congratulations to Indian chess prodigy R Praggnanandhaa for clinching the Grand Chess Tour St. Louis Rapid and Blitz title the previous day.

The 20-year-old secured his victory by drawing against Javokhir Sindarov in the penultimate round, finishing the tournament with an impressive score of 23 out of 35 points, leading by 1.5 points over his competitors.

In a message shared on X, Mandaviya praised Praggnanandhaa for his outstanding achievement, highlighting his performance and commitment as a source of national pride and motivation.

Mandaviya stated, "Congratulations to Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa on winning his maiden Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz title. His brilliant gameplay and dedication are a tremendous source of pride and inspiration for the entire country."

Earlier this June, Praggnanandhaa made headlines by winning the Norway Chess 2026 title in Oslo, where he triumphed over Germany's Vincent Keymer in the final round. This victory marked a significant achievement in his career, as he completed a remarkable comeback with four consecutive classical wins.

Following his success, Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay honored the young Grandmaster with a cash prize of Rs 50 lakh, presented during a ceremony at the Chief Secretariat in Chennai. The event also featured a friendly chess match between the Chief Minister and Praggnanandhaa.
