On September 20, in Nagoya, Japan, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya participated in a unique event called 'Sundays on Cycle,' organized by the Indian community to support the Indian athletes competing in the Asian Games 2026.

During his address, Mandaviya commended the Indian diaspora for their initiative to host the cycling event aimed at uplifting the spirits of the athletes. He expressed his belief that the Indian contingent would excel and bring honor to the nation.

"The Asian Games are being held in Nagoya, and our athletes are participating. To uplift their spirits, the Indian community organized a cycling event on Sunday to cheer for India. I am optimistic that our athletes will shine and bring pride to our country," Mandaviya stated.

The 20th Asian Games commenced with an opening ceremony at the Paloma Mizuho Stadium, featuring double Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker and kabaddi star Pawan Sehrawat as the flagbearers for India.

India's contingent consists of 501 athletes competing in 36 different sports at this prestigious multi-sport event, which is scheduled from September 19 to October 4.

Bhaker, who secured two bronze medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics, shared the honor of carrying the flag with Sehrawat, who was part of India's gold-medal-winning kabaddi team in the last Asian Games.

Sehrawat was appointed as the male flagbearer instead of shot-putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor due to some technical difficulties.

The opening ceremony signified the official beginning of the Games, uniting athletes from 45 nations and regions competing in 43 sports and 469 medal events.
