Indian Dominance in Wisden Almanack 2026 Awards
The Wisden Almanack 2026 awards saw Indian cricketers excel, clinching seven out of the nine available honors. Deepti Sharma and Abhishek Sharma stood out, being recognized as the Women's Cricketer of the Year and T20 Cricketer of the Year, respectively.
Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja were also celebrated, earning spots in Wisden's Five Cricketers of the Year due to their remarkable performances in the previous year's Test series in England.
The only non-Indian recipients were Australia's star bowler Mitchell Starc, awarded Men's Cricketer of the World, and England's Haseeb Hameed, who joined the Five Cricketers of the Year list.
Deepti Sharma's accolade came after she topped the wicket-takers chart in the last ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, claiming 22 wickets. Her outstanding performance was pivotal in India securing their first global title by defeating South Africa in the final held in Mumbai. Additionally, she scored 215 runs across nine matches, including three half-centuries.
Abhishek Sharma had an impressive 2025 season, amassing 859 runs in 21 matches at a remarkable strike rate of 193, featuring one century and five fifties.
India's Test captain, Shubman Gill, showcased his batting prowess during the English summer, accumulating 754 runs, which significantly contributed to India achieving a 2-2 draw in the five-match series. Notably, he scored 430 runs in the Edgbaston Test alone.
Pacer Mohammed Siraj emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, claiming 23 wickets. Rishabh Pant contributed 479 runs before an injury in the fourth Test sidelined him for the fifth match. Despite suffering a toe fracture, he managed to score 54 runs in the second innings at Manchester.
