Indian Cricketers Face Consequences for Missing Dope Tests

Indian cricketers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shafali Verma have been issued notices by NADA for missing dope tests, raising concerns about compliance with anti-doping protocols. Both players are part of the Registered Testing Pool and are required to provide their whereabouts for testing. The BCCI has confirmed the situation and is investigating the circumstances surrounding the missed tests. With cricket's return to the Olympics, adherence to these regulations is more critical than ever. The consequences of missing tests can be severe, including potential suspensions, as highlighted by past incidents involving other players.

Cricketers Under Scrutiny for Dope Test Absences

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shafali Verma, two prominent Indian cricketers, have received notices from the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) for failing to attend scheduled dope tests. Both athletes are included in NADA's Registered Testing Pool (RTP), which requires them to provide their location and a daily one-hour window for testing. Reports indicate that Jaiswal was absent from the designated location on December 17, 2025, when Dope Control Officers (DCOs) attempted to collect his sample. Similarly, Verma was unavailable during the DCOs' visit on November 7, 2025. Following their absence, NADA issued a notice requesting an explanation, but no response was received from the players, leading to the official recording of a missed test. A reliable source confirmed that notices have been sent to the athletes, and the national federation, the BCCI, along with the ICC, has been informed. The BCCI acknowledged the situation and stated they would investigate how the players missed the tests. “We have received notification from NADA regarding the missed tests. We will follow up with the players to understand the circumstances and ensure such incidents do not recur,” a BCCI source remarked. With cricket returning to the Olympics, adherence to all protocols is crucial for smooth operations.

Implications of Missing Dope Tests

Consequences Of Missing a Dope Test

The BCCI and ICC enforce stringent anti-doping regulations. According to NADA's guidelines, athletes must disclose their whereabouts and be available for testing during a specified daily window. Missing three consecutive tests is classified as a violation and may result in suspension. In a notable case from 2019, Prithvi Shaw received an eight-month backdated suspension from NADA after inadvertently consuming a banned substance found in cough syrup. The substance, Terbutaline, was detected in Shaw's blood test following sample collection during the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament in 2019.
