Indian Cricket Team Faces Setback Ahead of 4th T20I Against England
Injury Concerns for Indian Squad
The Indian cricket team has encountered a significant setback before the fourth T20I against England at the Bristol Cricket Ground. Star spinner Varun Chakravarthy and prominent pacer Harshit Rana have been ruled out for the remainder of the series. The Men in Blue are now in a crucial position, needing to win to level the series after falling behind 2-0 in the first three matches. Shreyas Iyer confirmed that both players are sidelined due to injuries and have been replaced by Washington Sundar and Prasidh Krishna.
A statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has verified that both players are dealing with hamstring injuries, which will keep them out not only of this match but also the final game scheduled for Saturday (July 11) at Southampton. The BCCI noted, "Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy sustained hamstring injuries during the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge. The BCCI Medical Team has evaluated their conditions and ruled them out of the 4th and 5th T20Is." Both players, who are teammates at KKR, had just returned from previous injuries during this series.
Harshit had sustained an injury during a warm-up match for the 2026 T20 World Cup against South Africa in February, causing him to miss India's successful campaign and the 2026 IPL season. Varun, on the other hand, had a hairline fracture during the IPL while playing for KKR. Although he participated in the entire season, he missed a few matches mid-tournament and was later ruled out of the series against Ireland.
Harshit is also included in India's ODI squad, which is set to face England in three ODIs from July 14 to 19. Meanwhile, England has made one adjustment to their lineup, bringing in Rehan Ahmed to replace Liam Dawson.
