Indian Boxing Team Celebrated for Historic Gold Medal Wins at Commonwealth Games

The Indian boxing team received a warm welcome from Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya after their remarkable gold medal victories at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. Jasmine Lamboria and Priya Ghanghas, among others, expressed their gratitude for the support and encouragement from the Minister. India achieved a historic milestone by finishing at the top of the boxing medal standings, securing seven gold and three silver medals, surpassing previous records. This celebration marks a significant moment in Indian sports history as the team prepares for upcoming challenges, including the Asian Games.

Celebration of Boxing Triumph

On August 4, in New Delhi, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya hosted a celebration for the Indian boxing team following their impressive gold medal achievements at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Gold medalist Jasmine Lamboria expressed her heartfelt thanks for the warm reception and unwavering support from Mandaviya upon her return to India.

She mentioned that his encouragement was a significant motivator and appreciated his commitment to assist them whenever necessary. Lamboria stated, “It is a great feeling. We arrived in India today at around 2 or 3 a.m. Our Sports Minister, Mansukh Mandaviya, invited us here and treated us with great respect. It is really encouraging to know that our country’s Sports Minister is supporting us so much. He also told us that if we ever need anything, he will make sure it is taken care of. He further said that he would soon fix a date for us to meet Prime Minister Modi.”

Alongside Lamboria, six other Indian boxers, including Sachin Siwach, Preeti Pawar, Sakshi Chaudhary, Arundhati Choudhary, Priya Ghanghas, and Ankush Panghal, also secured gold medals. Additionally, Narender Berwal, Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain, and Jadumani Singh contributed silver medals, culminating in a remarkable total of ten medals for India.

Priya Ghanghas, another gold medalist, expressed her joy over the support from Minister Mandaviya, noting that he discussed strategies for the upcoming Asian Games. She shared that her family is celebrating her success at home, saying, “It feels great that the Minister came here to support us and motivate us. He also spoke to us about the upcoming Asian Games… There is a full celebration going on at home.”

India made history in Glasgow by achieving the best boxing performance ever recorded by any nation in Commonwealth Games history, finishing first in the medal tally with seven gold and three silver medals. This achievement surpassed the previous record of six boxing gold medals held jointly by England (1934 and 2018) and Canada (1986).
